React Mastery / React Hooks

Introduction to React Hooks

🔹 What are React Hooks?

React Hooks (introduced in React 16.8) let you use state, lifecycle, and other React features in function components, so you don’t need class components anymore.

🔹 What Hooks Provide

  • State & lifecycle in functions using hooks like useState, useEffect, and useContext

  • Reusable logic through custom hooks

  • Cleaner & simpler code with less boilerplate and no this

  • Better code organization by grouping related logic

  • Easier testing & debugging

  • Improved performance when used correctly

🔹 Why Hooks Were Introduced

  • To avoid class complexity (this, binding, lifecycle confusion)

  • To make logic reuse easier (without HOCs or render props)

  • To improve code readability and maintainability

🔹 Compatibility

  • Hooks are optional

  • Backward compatible with class components

  • Class components still work and are useful for legacy code
